It's rained most of the day and its been quite cold here.

Barton Marina

Thursday 9th to Monday 13th August 2007

Thursday 9th

We left home around 10 am for the journey to Barton Turns Marina. On the way up we called into Focus at Ross on Wye on the M 50. and in the car park we saw the Westons Cider Shire horses. They are so beautiful.
We arrived at BT around 1.30pm there was lots of activity there as the official opening of the Waterfront Pub was for Friday 10th. The pub is finished but work is still going on to get the rest of the buildings finished shops and cafes so they say.

Friday 10th

We were woken early by the builders on site so many people working to get the outside of the pub ready for the evening. Window cleaners, Sweepers, all new chairs and tables were put up, Gazebos went up and a band arrived and set up their equipment photographers arrived and arranged cameras it was all going on and the weather was beautiful wall to wall sunshine. We were treated to the band practicing music for most of the day and by 6pm the crowd started to arrive the band played and every one seemed to be enjoying themselves. Being moored on pier 5 we had a very good view. About 10.30 we were treated to a wonderful firework display which lasted about 30 minuets. and so to bed but the crowd stayed and the band played on until midnight.

Saturday 11th

Another Scorcher of a day we washed and polished the boat it gets covered in dust from the building work. I expect it will be just as bad when we go back up on the 24th Aug for our cruise. Had a drive up to Alrewas to the famous butchers shop I wanted half a pig and a lamb to take home Monday but due to the foot and mouth there wasn't any meat available in large quantities until the end of the week so will do it next time.

The crowds came again and the bands played on until midnight every one was enjoying themselves but it did get a bit noisy

Sunday 12th

Well another beautiful day had a sort out of the inside of the boat

And still the crowds came and the bands played on until midnight.

Monday 13th Aug

Woken by the workmen again with their machinery so we packed up and cleaned through the boat and left for home we were away by 11.15am and home by 2pm.
